Megan Fox, Everyone Back for Transformers 2

In an article about The Office’s Rainn Wilson joining the cast of Michael Bay’s “Transformers 2″ as Sam Witwicky’s narcissistic college professor (reported here and elsewhere yesterday, by the way, ahem), The Hollywood Reporter also mentions that Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro have all returned for the sequel. But wait — did they really? If I read the article correctly, it seemed as if the trade was just assuming they would be back. Granted, they would be foolish not to return, but nothing I’ve read has mentioned that Megan Fox’s character would even BE in the sequel.
See, there you go. The article sort of just threw their names out there as a given that they’ll return for the sequel. I don’t even know why Josh Duhamel’s character would return, or Tyrese Gibson’s, for that matter. Although yes, Gibson’s character will likely return, as the actor has already said in other places that he has “Transformers 2″ on his schedule. Plus, casting notices guarantees that John Turturro’s annoying G-Man will also return.

But Duhamel and Megan Fox? It was reported a year ago that Fox was already signed on for sequels, but nothing I’ve read on the movie so far indicates that her character is still in the movie; plus, the sequel ages Sam Witwicky a number of years — he’s now in college, for one — so it would make sense for him to have a new girlfriend. How many of else still date our high school crush AFTER high school?

Rachel McAdams " State of Play Movie (2009) "

There’s a journo, a murder and a babe who slips beneath a subway train. There’s gossip and a sly love affair. We’re talking of State of Play movie adapted from its BBC television drama show. Noir (Russel Crow) is the hack hooked to newsroom buzz at The Washington Globe. He’s really toned down his macho image here as Cal McAffrey, a reporter. The movie takes off with a tangled skein as a petty thief is found dead and a passer-by who is witness to the murder is shot at too by a sharpshooter. Meanwhile, Congressman Collins (Ben Affleck) comes to know of his assistant having fallen beneath a subway train. Cal doesn’t want to pick up the trail as he’s been fooling around with Collins wife (Robin Wright Penn). Cal and Collins were college buddies. Then, there is the gossip that Collins may have been having an affair with his assistant who is no more.

Collins is also supposed to be on the panel trying to sniff out the illegal dealings of Point Corp suspected to have it’s finger in too many pies including the US Government offensive in the Middle East. Point Corp is intending to take control of Homeland Security.

What links what to whom? The audience has not one dull moment in the movie.Amidst the hoopla is the sexy reporter Della (Rachel McAdams) attached to McAffrey as his sidekick. As always, he wants none of her. Helen Mirren pitches in as the editor harassing everyone in the line of sight.

Director Kevin Macdonald (The Last King Of Scotland) and co-screenwriter Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Trilogy) have done a good job at jostling together the modern state of journalism and the goings-on among Congressmen. This one’s dynamite, watch with care.

Being cast in a crucial role for Dragonball Evolution has certainly been a boon for the career of Eriko Tamura, a former idol who decided a decade ago to establish herself as a Hollywood actress.With limited demand for Asian actors--especially nonnative English speakers such as Tamura--in Hollywood, the chance for a nonstar like herself to be cast in the role of sexy villainess was a rare one, the actress explained."Action films are really popular in the United States, and the role of sexy villainess is one that any actress--not just an Asian--would love to fill," Tamura told The Daily Yomiuri during a promotional visit to Tokyo for the live-action Dragonball film. In the film, Tamura plays the sexy Mai, who is on the trail of the lead character, Goku (Justin Chatwin), under orders from Lord Piccolo."Over the eight years that I've been in Hollywood, I have noticed that the types of roles Japanese actors get tend to be otaku or costume-heavy idols," said Tamura, who had a role in the popular U.S. TV show Heroes as a love interest of Hiro (Masi Oka), himself an otaku. "That trend has definitely started to change, though."The movie is based on the immensely popular Dragonball manga and anime series by Akira Toriyama. With the added title of "Evolution," Toriyama is urging his fans to consider this film in a "different category" than the original series. Goku has been recast as a geeky American high-schooler trained by his Asian grandfather, while Goku's trainer Kamesennin is not the bald old lecherous man of the comics, but instead a handsome middle-aged man portrayed by Chow Yun Fat.Although the drastic changes may confuse the series' fanbase, the whole concept of the casting, according to Tamura, was to be "international."

"When I heard Dragonball would be made into a movie, I, as a fan of the manga, was so excited and happy. At the same time, I thought the cast of an American version of the story wouldn't need to be populated by Japanese," she said.But she later heard the film was being cast to reflect racial diversity, which spurred her to try out for a role. After worldwide auditions, Tamura was chosen to play the cold-hearted, sexy fighter."Mai was not originally planned as an Asian role, meaning the director was not looking particularly for an Asian. And that means a lot to me," Tamura said.The remake for an "international" audience may meet resistance from some of the manga's fans, but for Tamura, the multiracial cast was an important factor in being seen as something other than just another "Asian actor."
